Used Book Donations

The Library would like to thank all those who have enriched our collection by so generously donating used books. We evaluate all donations according to condition, appropriateness for the collection, and community interest. Some donations are designated for use in the collection, some are sold at book sale and the proceeds benefit the library, and some materials are recycled. We ask that all donated materials be clean and free of odors.

We are always glad to take current popular fiction, history, literature, children’s books, DVDs, CDs, and materials and pictures related to the history of our local area like the Weirton Steel Bulletin, Goldenseal, Wild Wonderful West Virginia, City Directories, and Yearbooks from any of the schools in Hancock County or adjoining counties.
THERE ARE SOME TYPES OF MATERIAL THAT THE LIBRARY CAN NOT USE IN THE COLLECTION. WE HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THESE DO NOT SELL WELL AT BOOK SALE. THESE INCLUDE:
Textbooks, computer books, medical books, mass market paperbacks, business books, professional books and encyclopedias whose most recent printing date is greater than 10 years old
Magazines and journals other than the Weirton Steel Bulletin, Goldenseal, Wild Wonderful West Virginia or other West Virginia specific materials. The Library has a very complete collection of National Geographic and regrets that no further donations can be accepted.
Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
Materials copied from another source
Adult jigsaw puzzles
Cassette tapes, VHS tapes, and computer software
Training manuals or workbooks from specific classes or workshops
Instruction books for specific appliances or equipment
Some other items that we generally can use donations of are things we can use in our programming like craft supplies, serving platters or trays. nice tablecloths (plastic or material), wooden children’s puzzles, puppets, Legos and Duplos, board games and card games. Of course we can always use surplus office supplies like pens, pencils, paper, envelopes, etc.
Thank you for supporting the Mary H. Weir Public Library!
